Not sure what was going on, I have no sound but apparently there was a confrontation between the two (Upton and Longoria) in the dugout (6/27 against the Diamondbacks).

If you know what happened please fill us in.

From our former future star and our 'future' star.

By the way, it looks like we got the wrong Upton Brother.

Upton once again wasn't hustling he was literally jogging for a ball in the outfield and cost us from keeping a guy at second to trying to hold him at third and Evan got in his face for not hustling....you could literally see BJ jogging in the outfield it was pretty pathetic to see a guy with as much talent as BJ has jogging for a ball at the wall in center field.

Kudos to Longoria for manning up and saying something to Upton. Getting called out by a manager is one thing, but getting called out by the best player on this team is a completely different story. Maybe this will light a fire under Upton's lazy ass.

on the flip side, Upton is terrible. Complete waste of talent.

I am sooooo sick and tired of this lazy a** going through the motions! I was watching a game last week where the ball was hit right at him but kinda shallow, and he could've easily got the ball if he was hustling, but instead it fell out of his glove. That baserunner eventually scored. I was literally screaming at the t.v.! :wall:

I remember that too, and I've seen a lot of balls drop infront of him that I believe he could have gotten to had he hustled from the start. So much for playing shallow also. If he's not really saving bloop singles while letting balls fly over his head whats the point?

I think he's just too lazy to run all the way out there.

This kid is a waste of talent. But he is talented. Right now he's earned about $50 of his 3 million dollars. Imagine if he won his arbitration.

He's talented. But too dumb to realize it.

PS: His brother is (was) not as talented but is playing better, from my understanding.

I can put up with the poor production and occasional outfield goofs by Upton (to a point) but not hustling down the line, hustling after balls hit into the outfield or escalating dugout confrontations is unacceptable. It becomes more noticeable and cancerous to the team and team spirit. The fans don't want or need to see it either.

I have never read a report that stated BJ was more talented. Here's a Keith Law post comparing the two a couple years back.

Upton is a flawed player. He has been for years. When he's struggling, his flaws get magnified more than usual.

EDIT:

There's also something about not hustling that just eats away at everyone. It's just not an acceptable flaw like slow foot speed or bad plate discipline. Not saying that it shouldn't be seen as worse, but it's just such a hot button issue.

Hahah, RaysRepubic banned me for telling the truth.

It's common knowledge the majority of the team are nighthawks. If they weren't all nerds who spent their social lives behind computer keyboards they'd know that firsthand.

When Kapler comes back, replace Upton.

Yuck... Is krapler still in this mix. *sigh* I know we dont have many options available at the moment.

Maybe we should just promote some crappy AAA outfielders. When they get here they will mash the ball, magic will happen and pigs will grow wings. Well its worked for Boston?!?!?

As the old saying goes I'd rather be lucky than good. Take Boston. Being so unlucky practically every starter you have goes down to the injury yet whoever (ie BUMS) they plug in miracously exceeds expectations. The Rays? No matter WHO they plug in the batting order the MLB Gods have decided to knock 'em over, kick 'em while they are down, crap on thier heads and then laugh at them. It feels like anybody the Rays place on the field; fate will yield the same beating & results.

Anyway I noticed on another website that amazingly there are still plenty of fans that make excusses for BJ... pathetic. Aside from all the deserved critisism its time to admit BJ is what we see. A mendoza line batter with occasional flashes of power... a platoon player. His numbers are not all that bad against lefties, maybe the occasional start against the appropriate righties. He'd make intersting bench depth on nites he didn't play... pinch hitter against lefty relievers and one speedy pinch runner.

I say we send Upton and Pena to Milwuakee for Prince Fielder and some Prospects. We could easily get something for the both of them and lose both of our major hitting problems. Its possible...but could we get so lucky?

What possible reason would the Brewers make that deal?

They wouldn't. But it feels good thinking about it.
