That doesn't make him a better ballplayer at all though. MJ was the best to ever play, hands down.
It still means something. At least in the overall scope of the game.
The question I'm asking is where does Kobe place in the history of the game? At this point, I'm going with 6 or 7. Certainly not in the top 5.
In the 90's, everyone in the world knew who MJ was. Not only that, but he provided exposure to the US game of basketball. Trust me, nobody internationally would care who Kobe was if it wasn't for MJ and the Dream Team efforts in the 90's.
As for Kobe all-time, he's clearly top 10. I can't put him top 5 when his teams have lost to historically "average" championship teams like the Pistons and Spurs. Those weren't teams that would have beaten the 90's Bulls or 80's Celtics/Lakers in their primes.
