Doug Barner (born December 1, 1974 in Jackson, TN) was a third baseman in the Tampa Bay Devil Rays minor league system. He signed with the Devil Rays as an amateur free agent on June 20, 1996 by Skip Bundy.[1]

Before the Devil Rays

Barner played collegiate ball for Middle Tennessee State University, where his teams reached the Ohio Valley Conference Championships in three of his four years (1993, 1995 and 1996). In 1996, he hit 19 home runs with a slugging percentage of .702.[2]

Professional career

With brief stints for both the Gulf Coast Devil Rays and Butte Copper Kings in 1996, Barner spent most of his playing time in his first pro season with the Hudson Valley Renegades. The following season, he played exclusively for the Charleston RiverDogs. He did not return to professional baseball after the 1997 season.

After the Devil Rays

As of 2011, Barner has been giving hitting lessons and also serves as the hitting coach for a traveling youth baseball team in Tennessee.[2]
